The Real Deal asked:

I am wondering if I am just seeing things or if my skin is really changing color. I think that my skin has kind of a bronze tinge to it since I have become vegan. I have been eating vegan for a few months now.

The other explanation could be that I am paler since being vegan and my suntan has a slightly different color to it.

Just so you know, I have been making sure to have some raw green veggies everyday, such as spinach, romaine lettuce, broccoli, etc.

Does this sound accurate?
Hey I am not worried about this, I just noticed a difference. I wanted to see if any other vegans notice a difference.

I have a very healthy diet. I don’t think that the change in skin color is a bad thing, I am just making sure that it’s not just my imagination.

Vegetarianism – Benefits of Vegetarian Diet

When you prevent certain diseases from occurring, you can expect to live a healthier life, free from diseases and worries. Indeed, these are the most prominent benefits that vegetarians have enjoyed.

There is indeed a direct link between your choice of diet and the condition of your health.

1. Lesser chances of becoming obese.

Vegetarians were shown to be 20% slimmer as compared to those who eat lots of meat. This is due to the low fat diet that vegetarians practice. Plant food sources also contain fiber that effectively dilutes the calories in your meal, hence making it healthier.

2. Lesser Digestive Problems.

Your fiber intake helps regulate the processes of your digestive system and thus reduce the chances of suffering from bowel diseases, appendicitis, and other digestive tract problems.

3. No Heart Disease.

The presence of cholesterol and fat in a meat diet contributes to the development of heart disease. The higher the level of cholesterol in your blood stream, the more you are at risk of heart disease.

4. No Cancer.

Cancer is most often caused by our diet choice. Hence, you need to look into what you are eating if you do not want to suffer from cancer. To reduce this risk, you need to increase your fiber intake, lessen cholesterol and saturated fat content in your diet, increase vitamin A and C intake, and eat more plant foods that contain anti-carcinogens.

Longevity: The Biggest Prize for Vegetarian Diet

The biggest benefit you can get from switching into a vegetarian diet is that you can lengthen your life expectancy. Studies reveal that vegetarians live longer than those who are non-vegetarians, approximately 4 to 10 years longer.

☺Bojanglesvegan☺ asked:

people will ask me why i am vegan. and i am just dying to tell them about what happens to that piece of animal muscle they have on their plate.but i also am very aware that the #1 thing omnivores dislike about vegans/vegetarians is that they try to convert them. as any one who felt strongly about a certain cause would want to do, i want to send the message out about the horrible reality that comes with the meat/dairy/egg industry that many many people don’t realize. but i dont want to give people the message that all veggies do is try and brain wash them. where is the happy medium?

(i mean if i was an environmentalist, i would want to explain to people what could be done to help the earth. its the same thing with wanting people to understand vegan/vegetarianism, you know?)

please no rude answers. only helpful ones.

I’ve been a vegetarian for more than a year and I just realized (dumb, I know) that my ballet slippers (their not pointe shoes) are made with leather. Can I still be considered a vegetarian if I keep wearing them? I’m quite serious about being a ballerina and a vegetarian. So there’s my dilema. Thanks.
EDIT: I think I wrote the question wrong. I meant to ask what you would do, your opinions. Sorry.

Also, canvas shoes wouldn’t work because I do competitions and ballet exams, so canvas shoes would be unnacceptable.

I bought some cologne for my husband that is 100% Vegan and 95 % Organic, but my concern is whether or not it has chemicals and artificial ingredients. Unfortunately the ingredients list fragrance, it doesn’t say what the fragrance came from. I’m not familiar enough with Vegan standards to know if something can be labeled Vegan and contain artificial ingredients as long as they don’t come from animals.
Thanks!

I found this website that helps vegetarians with fast-food, and it warns that some restaurants cook vegetarian dishes in the same oil as the rest of their food. Is that a warning to all vegetarians or just some, like vegans?

Vegetarianism?

Adawg asked:

I’ve been debatng vegetarianism for awhile now, and I would love to stop eating meat, but there a few things I still don’t get.

1. why do some vegetarians eat fish, while some do not? what are the main arguments for and against this, and why is fish a debatable meat?

2. how do vegetarians get enough protein? i’m not found of pills, and i’m sure there would be some other way. I believe thats probably the biggest problem for me with vegetarianism; it’d be really hard for me to get enough protein.

3. how does not eating meat affect your body? both positively and negatively.

thanks everyone, i know there were a lot of questions in this one.

I am using a vegan product for my entire family called Arbonne. They are a 100% vegan and their products are totally environmentally safe. I use their skin care, baby products, hair care, vitamins, shave cream, weight loss program and their spa products as well. I am a sales rep for the company now, and would like to market and cater to the vegan community since it is close to my heart. Any feedback?
Just looking for a different perspective on what else may be out there.

My mom raised my brothers and I vegetarian (almost totally vegan) because of her beliefs regarding the killing of animals. However, neither my brothers nor I remained vegetarian.

One of my daughter’s friends (age 10) is being raised vegetarian and my daughter wonders if she will eat meat someday. When I asked her what she thought, she told me that since everyone she knew who was raised vegetarian did not stay that way, that her friend won’t either. I explained that everyone makes different decisions and her friend may be a vegetarian for life.

So now I’m curious if there has been a study of vegetarian families, and how often children of vegetarians choose to eat meat as adults. Were my brothers and I the rule, or the exception?
Reply to J.R.
I started eating meat because I smelled it and it seems much more appetizing than the diet I grew up on. I still appreciate fresh vegetables (my dad is into gardening, I rarely tasted vegetables that weren’t ultra-fresh) but I simply prefer the flavor of meats when given the choice.
